why should we hire you for our wedding?
I believe that generosity is key in building relationships with others, giving is something I enjoy as a person and being able to help others is a passion of mine. i’m fair in my photography pricing and what i offer, i don’t hold images hostage for more money and give a great deal to my clients for what they pay for my services. i believe that the ownership of your portraits is just as much yours as it is mine, these are after all your memories and your special day. i provide a well-rounded look at the wedding day in a way that i feel is unique among wedding photographers. at my core i am an artist but am also someone who feels things deeply and sees connections easily, because of this my candid portraiture sets me apart and is what pulls my clients in to working with me.
i care immensely about every person i work with and the outcome of their portraits. i’m meticulous, hard-working and believe communication is vital to a healthy relationship with your clientele. you won’t be waiting weeks to hear from me when you send me an e-mail or message nor will you be waiting weeks on end to see your portraits. you will see a glimpse of your portraits within 7 days of the event in a sneak peek with typically 25-30 images (from weddings) and 10-15 images (from engagements).
additionally is my experience on weddings. i truly believe that an experienced vendor is an asset to any weddings and helps to alleviate stress and concern. i’ve been a photographer for 10 years and photography has been my primary source of income since 2012. I help every client put together an itinerary for their wedding that will ensure the best possible outcome for portraits whilst taking in to consideration their wants and needs as individuals. and recently i’ve chosen to not only limit the number of weddings i photograph each year but also Limit portrait sessions to focus on my wedding clientele. this means i’ll be more available to you and that you are my main focus as a photographer.
I may be biased, but i do believe that you’d be in great hands if you chose me as your wedding photographer.
How long have you been a photographer?
I’ve been photographing on and off nearly my whole life. I was that friend who had a polaroid (heyo - 90’s kid here!) + made all my friends take pictures with me. I started editing pictures on a free linux program called gimp when I was about sixteen. But, professionally i started working as a photographer in 2009.
How many weddings have you photographed?
I’ve lost count, but i believe we are somewhere in the 200+ range.
Is this your full-time job?
Yes, I have been full-time since 2012. I do consider myself a “wfhm” work from home mom, so i feel like I have the perks + responsibilities of a sahm but also run a fully operational business too. (Hence why I’m awake at 4AM grinding on this website! haha)
how much do you charge for a wedding?
This honestly depends on what you’re looking for but full coverage (8+ Hrs) starts at $3100.00, limited coverage (6 hrs) starts at $2800.00 + elopement packages start at $1900.00, - an elopement is a small intimate wedding of usually less than 100 guests, often occurs on weekdays - I am not available saturdays during wedding season for elopements but I am available during off-season.
what is “off-season”?
For me, off-season is December through April - this just means it’s not typical wedding season for iowans, so i have more availability + flexibility.
do you offer “off-season” discounts on full weddings?
No, I do not. A full-coverage wedding is the same amount of work for me in every month or season.
How many other events will you photograph that weekend?
most weekends I’ll only have onE event, i really try not to book two weddings in one weekend - it depends on the nature of the wedding, some weekends i’ll have a full event on a saturday and an intimate event on a sunday, but this is rare.
is there a contract for services?
is there a deposit and how much is it?
all weddings require a $1200.00 deposit to book, except for intimate collections which are 1/2 down at booking.
DO YOU OFFER PAYMENT PLANS?
ABSOLUTELY, I UNDERSTAND WEDDINGS ARE AN INVESTMENT. WE CAN DISCUSS A MONTHLY PAYMENT OPTION IF THIS APPEALS TO YOU! ALL PAYMENT PLANS DO REQUIRE THE RETAINER FEE PAID IN FULL BEFORE WE BEGIN MONTHLY INSTALLMENTS.
what happens if a photographer is ill?
i’ve photographed weddings while ill. if myself or my children are too ill (hospitalized) to allow for me to attend a wedding, a replacement of similar style and expertise will be provided for you.
Do you charge for travel?
for events within 3 hours of where i live, no - you will not be charged a fee for travel on the wedding. i do charge travel for anything over a 50 mile radius on engagement sessions. for events that exceed 3 hours travel, i’ll ask for hotel or travel accommodations to be paid.
Are you available for destination weddings?
Yes, in fact - please take me on a mini vacation with you to your wedding, chances are I need it!! haha!
how much editing goes in to the final product and how many images should i expect to see?
editing is the bulk of the work done on a wedding. traditional editing such as color correcting, matching style to portfolio presented to you, and minimal retouching (blemishes, etc) will be provided on every event. additional edits such as photo manipulation, head swapping, extreme retouching, changing the size or appearance of a person, adding or removing people in a photograph, etc will come with additional editing fees.
on a typical wedding you should expect to see no less than 500 individual images, this amount varies depending on the time present on an event and how well time is utilized for portraiture at an event. most weddings will receive more than this, however this number is not guaranteed, just typical of most weddings.
Can I have the “Raw” files?
No, this is not something that I offer. i believe that so much of the look i provide my clients comes in post-editing and keeping that consistent is very important to me.
what kind of equipment do you use?
I’m a nikon gal. I won’t name all the lenses and camera bodies, but I’ll say: I have three camera bodies, 4 lenses i use on weddings - 2 that are primary, two flash set ups, various lighting aids + stands, etc - all that fun stuff!
should my event last longer than expected, will you stay later and what is the fee?
yes. the fee is $250.00 per every additional hour.
this amount is reflective of additional time spent on the wedding, accommodations made for personal reasons (family, sitters, etc), as well as time spent in post processing on the additional hour of time (editing).
how long does it take to receive my full gallery of portraits back?
weddings: typically 4-6 weeks.
engagement: typically 2-4 weeks.
how far in advance should i schedule my engagement session?
with me: 3-4 months in advance.
from your wedding: 6 months+, typically.
Any advice on choosing a wedding photographer?
Once you’ve decided that you like their style + are ready to book, spend time getting to know them after that initial contact. the wedding photographer will be the vendor who spends the most time with you on your wedding day, usually.
